The project was implemented with the aim of expanding the coverage of the existing lobby to cover the parking area, improving the convenience for residents and customers. The technical requirements and challenges include:

  • Expand coverage area: A canopy solution was needed that extended from the existing lobby to the traffic area to provide cover for vehicles picking up and dropping off guests.
  • Avoid heavy textures: The new roofing solution must have an ultra-light structure, avoiding the use of heavy materials such as concrete to avoid overloading the existing structure.

Sail Structure Design (Hypar)

The design solution is a sail-shaped tensile membrane (hyperbolic paraboloid – hypar). This form not only brings a modern, elegant architectural beauty but is also highly efficient in terms of structure, allowing the creation of stable surfaces with only corner anchor points, very suitable for the requirement of a compact structure.

The solution uses cable cars to create a central high point, helping to free up the view and eliminating the need for support columns.

Hybrid Structural Solution: Steel Columns and Cables

To meet the requirement for a minimalist structure, a hybrid structural solution was applied:

Fixed anchor point: One edge of the tensile membrane is anchored directly to the building's existing concrete roof structure, taking advantage of the available load-bearing capacity.

Steel column: The external anchor points are supported by a system of single steel columns, cleverly arranged within the green belt so as not to obstruct the walkway.

Central tension point by cable: To create a high point in the middle of the lobby and avoid having to place a column in the center, a cable suspension system was used. A point on the membrane is pulled up by a tension cable, anchored to the building facade on the upper floor.
