Tensile Facade Mesh Building Facade Covering – Creating the Building of the Future
Buildings are brought to life through their shapes, materials and colours, which define how the building expresses itself and the context in which it exists. Design and construction options Tensile Facade Mesh building facade cladding offers an enhanced range of traditional materials available to incorporate new technical and aesthetic components.
The textile facade can create unique building envelopes thanks to its sophisticated system technology. The Schüco facility has demonstrated that it is also a viable alternative for functional buildings such as car parks since 2019.
Wrapped fabric Tensile Facade Mesh building facade cladding The simple cubic structure resembles a shimmering cocoon. The load-bearing substructure is made of steel and aluminum and gives shape to the envelope. The impression that the building is floating is created by an open base level, above which the seven upper floors merge into a single unit – from the flat, homogeneous structure with vertical emphasis, to the wave-like shape on the side facing the street.
During the day, the parking floors are bright and filled with light, thanks to the transparency of the material. Mesh building facade cladding allowing clear views from inside to outside and around, while at night the appearance changes. As darkness falls, the striking facade lighting and motion-activated interior lighting transform the car park into an illuminated sculpture.
Advantages of using Mesh material for parking lot roofing and building facade covering
Job Build facades Textiles are not a small matter. The ability to construct two- and three-dimensional surfaces as design features involves complex calculations of induced loads and consideration of deformation in construction details while maintaining the same level of tension without wrinkles occurring.
The most unique feature of cover the face of the court The advantage of the Mesh facade lies in the way the 3D effect is achieved. Its plasticity is not created by tilting or folding, but by rotating the individual sections, alternating the high and low points of the steel joints. To do this, it was necessary to find ways to deform and withstand the loads of 165 sections, almost all of which were different.
The frames were prefabricated in different shapes depending on their location on the facade and were mounted on the substructure on site using individual spacers and brackets. The fabric was then clamped into place. The patented clamping system allows the fabric to be clamped on all sides without wrinkling using flexible technology, while occupying a minimal cavity in a profile of just 2.5 cm.
This means that each device can be repaired or replaced individually without touching the system.
Flexibility of Tensile Facade Mesh car park canopy/ building facade cladding
The flexibility of Tensile Facade Mesh allows building facades to be adapted and shaped to suit a wide range of supporting surfaces quickly and cost-effectively. Furthermore, woven facades provide effective shading and thus contribute to the reduction of heat in buildings.
The Mesh building facade/car park canopy achieves this level of protection while maintaining excellent ventilation and maximum visibility to the outside. The special fabric coating also ensures certified fire resistance, which is especially important for steel structure cladding.
Typical example of car park/building facade cladding using Tensile Facade Mesh
The project, located in Bielefeld, is being carried out by Herford-based Schlattmeier, in partnership with 3XN. Karsten Schlattmeier was particularly impressed by the 3D effect created by Tensile Facade Mesh, saying: “For example, while glass walls may appear restrictive, a woven facade sandwiched at the front of the structure achieves gives an effect of depth to the observer. It creates a transparent appearance with the structure behind the facade remaining visible. ”
Although fabric clamping is still a manual job, the entire project was coordinated through a digital process chain from design to construction drawings and 3D fabrication.
